Keita Durie

Keita began her teaching career in 2016, working as a bilingual teacher in an rūmaki unit in Tauranga Moana. She has experience working with the New Zealand curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. Keita has also led a newly established bilingual unit in Whangārei, working successfully with iwi, hapū, whanau and leadership to create the foundation for the unit. She has recently comepleted her professional inquiry for a Master of Education (Māori Education) through Massey University in Palmerston North. Her research explored effective practices that contribute to the success of ākonga Māori in English-Medium secondary schools, from the perspective of Māori principals. Keita’s research interests include te reo Māori me ōna tikanga Māori, Māori Education, Kaupapa Māori methodology, and Māori-medium models of Education.
