Provision of early childhood education services and parental perceptions

Author(s):
Linda Mitchell

This is one of three reports from NZCER’s second national survey of the early childhood education sector, carried out in late 2007. The others are:

The survey reports the views of teachers/educators from education and care centres, kindergartens, playcentres, and home-based services, and from a small number of kohanga reo, along with the views of parents.

This report looks at aspects of early childhood education provision, including opening hours and enrolments patterns, funding, teacher workload and morale, and management issues. The survey was conducted after the introduction of free 20 hours early childhood education for three and four year olds, and is the first comprehensive look at the impact of that policy from the point of view of parents and centre staff.
