He wāhanga tēnei rangahau o ngā mahi whakahou, whakaora hoki i te reo Māori, ā, e rua ōna whāinga poto. Te whāinga poto tuatahi (me tana pātai matua) o te rangahau he tūhura i ngā āhuatanga e tautoko ana i te ora o te reo Māori i roto i ngā kura me ngā kura auraki. Te whāinga tuarua, he tiritiri i ngā mahi me ngā tikanga tautoko kua oti te tautohu e matou, ki te ao.

Tā tēnei pūroro he hora kitenga mō ngā huarahi e tautokona ai te reo Maori e ngā kura me ngā kāinga, me ngā wawata o ngā whānau mō te reo Māori i ngā kāinga me ngā hapori, i te ao mātauranga anō hoki.

I arotahi tā mātou tūhura ki ēnei wāhanga e toru:

  • he pēhea te mahi tahi a ngā whānau me ērā atu tāngata whai pānga ki ngā kura me ngā kura auraki ki te tautoko i te reo Māori
  • ngā mahi e mahia ana e ngā kura me ngā kura auraki hei tautoko i te reo Māori
  • ngā tirohanga a te tangata mō ngā kaupapa here a te kāwanatanga, mehemea he tautoko, he pēhi rānei aua kaupapa here i te tipu o te reo.

Tautokona te reo: The wellbeing of te reo Māori in kura and schools

This study is sited within the wider context of the maintenance and revitalisation of te reo Māori, and it has two goals. The first goal (and main question) of the research was to explore what supports the wellbeing of te reo Māori in kura and schools. The second goal was to share the supporting actions and practices we identified.

The report presents findings on the ways that kura and schools support the wellbeing of te reo Māori, and whānau aspirations for te reo Māori in homes and communities, and in education.

Our exploration focused on three areas:

  • how whānau and other stakeholders work with kura and schools to support te reo Māori
  • the actions kura and schools take to support te reo Māori
  • perceptions of government policies in supporting or constraining the language.
